Notification Timeline:
- Submission deadline is April 14, 2026.
- Successful candidates will be notified by May 1, 2026, and will then receive rehearsal timelines and next-step details.
The Rules of Engagement:
Required Materials for Submission
Please ensure your submission includes:
- Treatment, with clear title, character breakdown, and stage directions
- Playwright’s bio, maximum 200 words
- Synopsis, maximum 250 words
- Director’s vision statement
- Performance history, if applicable
Interested applicants must submit the following materials:
1. Treatment
A treatment with a clear title, character breakdown, and stage directions.
2. Playwright’s Bio
A short biography, maximum 200 words, outlining the playwright’s background and experience.
3. Synopsis
A brief synopsis, maximum 250 words, summarizing the story and its themes.
4. Director’s Vision Statement
A short note outlining the director’s creative approach to the play.
5. Performance History
If the play has been staged before, include details of previous performances.
Selection Criteria
Submissions will be evaluated on the following:
Originality and Creativity
The presentation should offer fresh, compelling, and engaging storytelling.
Thematic Relevance
Works should align with the festival’s vision by showcasing diverse voices and narratives that resonate with Jamaican and Caribbean culture.
Length and Structure
Each presentation must be designed for a 10-minute performance.
Cast and Staging Feasibility
The work should be practical for a festival environment, with a small to medium-sized cast and minimal set requirements.
Performance Readiness
The script should be rehearsal-ready and capable of being staged within the festival timeline.
Artistic and Cultural Impact
Priority will be given to works that celebrate Caribbean identity, challenge perspectives, or push creative boundaries.
Adaptations and Excerpts
Adaptations or excerpts are eligible, once the applicant has secured the legal rights to produce and perform the work.
